  • Nutrition labeling requirements, formats, and exemptions: You will know what information is voluntary, how information is declared, when different nutrition formats can be used, and when a product may be exempt from nutrition labeling.

  • Claim Statements: You will be able to explain the difference between and requirements for nutrient content and health claims, determine country-of-origin labeling, know the difference between organic labeling levels, determine if a claim of “natural” is appropriate for a product, and summarize requirements for bioengineered food disclosures.

  • Ingredient statements and standards of identity: You will understand the requirements for designating ingredients, common or usual names, proper multicomponent ingredients listings, allergen disclosures, and the mandates for labeling products that have legal US standards of identity.
